In the scorching heat of the barren desert, she ran.

Not once. But seven times.

Alone. Afraid. Yet unshaken in faith.

Hajar (AS), the noble wife of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), was the first to pace the valley of Safa and Marwah — not for herself, but for her son. Driven by desperation, fueled by hope, and anchored in tawakkul, her search for water became a legacy etched into our pilgrimage.

But this Dhul Hijjah, the story of Hajar is not just history — her path is trod by countless women today, traversing their own valleys of struggle.

Just as our mother Hajar ran, frantic for relief, there too are Muslim women today, desperately seeking the Zamzam to their hardships.

The young mother searches for a way out of domestic violence for her and her children.

The lonely widow in poverty seeks support to manage her daily needs.

The traumatised children search for stability after their father is taken away in handcuffs.

The refugee left everything she ever knew, looking for a new home, only to find rejection and poverty in the UK.

At Embrace, every woman and child we serve has a story to tell. They are carrying more than just financial hardship — the weight of single motherhood, trauma, displacement, and the shame that poverty often brings. They are not running in the desert for relief, instead they suffer on our doorstep.

Just like Hajar (AS), they’re not waiting for handouts. They are striving.

All they need is someone
to meet them at the well.

You can be the source of sustenance and mercy for the Hajars of today.
During these best 10 days of the year, help the rains of mercy fall on households in need.

Those in our midst are often the easiest to overlook. But right now in the UK,
half of Muslim households are living in poverty, and are at three times the risk of falling into very deep poverty than the rest of the population.

The cost of living crisis, higher unemployment rates, housing challenges, unequal access to education and employment opportunities, and increased vulnerability to debt all play a role in why Muslims struggle in urban poverty. Left are Muslim women carrying the weight of silent struggles and burdens mostly unrecognised. They are walking their own valleys, in search of relief.

She Ran Alone.
She Shouldn’t Have
To Anymore.

This Dhul Hijjah, you have the chance to not only honour Hajar (AS) but to live her legacy — by walking besides the women today following in her footsteps.

Just as the solitary Hajar (AS) found her relief in the divine gift of Zam Zam water, you can quench the thirst of need for the Hajars of today.

Dhul Hijjah is not just a time for reflection — it’s a time for action and sacrifice.

Your deed today could be the difference between despair and dignity for a woman in need.

Relieve her hunger for a month - £250 food vouchers/£65 a week

Right here in the UK, millions of women are going hungry — many of them alone, scared, and forgotten.

  • 7.5 million people in the UK face food insecurity.
  • Muslim refugee women survive on as little as £8 a week.
  • Mothers are skipping meals to feed their children.
  • Survivors of abuse are rebuilding their lives with nothing but hope — and often, empty cupboards.

This Dhul Hijjah, you can remove the anxiety of not having enough. The food vouchers you provide will help mothers fill their fridges with essentials and ensure her children don’t go to bed hungry. Your donation today means she eats tomorrow.

Sacrifice £285 UK Sheep

Embrace allows you to gift the best animal, reared in the most careful conditions, given in accordance to the Sunnah and reaching those nearest in need. This greater sacrifice of our wealth ends their struggle this Eid.

Though donating Qurbani overseas may be the cheaper option, performing Qurbani in the UK, and giving it to the needy who are nearest, is closer to the Sunnah of the Prophet (saw), as agreed to by all four schools in Islam.

£200 therapy to heal her trauma/£50 individual

Often the invisible wounds are the hardest to heal. Whether it’s the horrors of war, the terror of raids, the grief of bereavement, or the scars of abuse, your gift can allow a person to work through their trauma, pain and past so they can free themselves of the shackles weighing them down. Counselling sessions will be targeted, effective and culture-sensitive.

“When you go through traumatic events that affect you deeply, especially being heavily pregnant during that time, it doesn't matter how much time passes, all it takes is one trigger to take you back to that moment and recall all those events in detail. It's not something that leaves. Obviously you seek a refuge in Allah, be patient and you persevere through it. But the memories will always be there. That trauma will always be there. It's not something that disappears.”
