I’m taking part in Walking Through History, Embrace's first unique winter walk through the heart of London, where I’ll retrace the footsteps of Britain’s rich Muslim heritage while fundraising to help families survive the coldest, harshest months of the year.

As I wrap up warm, defy the winter chill, and walk through history, I’m asking you to walk beside me - by helping raise vital funds to keep families warm, fed, clothed and safe this winter.

👣 Why I’m Walking Beside Them

Here, on our doorstep, families supported by Embrace are already struggling with the rising cost of living and fragile financial security. Winter doesn’t just bring cold - it brings crisis.

For millions across the UK - especially single mothers, families of detainees, widows, and asylum seekers - Winter deepens despair, reawakens trauma, and turns daily hardship into a crisis.

Mothers become single parents overnight due to imprisonment, detention, or loss

Households are burdened with debt, rising fuel bills, and unstable housing

Families are forced to choose between heating or eating

Children face winter without warm clothing, bedding, or safe homes

Homes in poor repair and lacking insulation become icy, damp, and unliveable.

The absence of security - emotional, financial, and physical - leaves families carrying unimaginable burdens, made far worse by winter.

This isn’t happening far away.

It’s happening a few doors down, in our towns, our cities, our communities.

Across the UK, poverty bites harder in the cold. And it hits Muslim households the hardest.

• 10 million households in fuel poverty


• 14 million people went without food in 2024 - including nearly 4 million children


• Over 2.3 million homes will keep the heating off this winter as they can’t afford it


• 750,000 elderly people are choosing between heating and eating


• 50% of Muslim households live in poverty - three times the national average
