This Dhul Hijjah, I am fundraising as part of the Race to Embrace Challenge.

Help me honour the Hajars of today and be their Zamzam this Dhul Hijjah!

Embrace is a volunteer-run charity, for Muslims living in poverty, isolation and trauma on our doorstep in the UK.

We are at the forefront in giving to those suffering in Palestine, Syria and Yemen - but when our brothers and sisters from those same lands ravaged by war, seek solace in the UK, our community are nowhere to be seen.

In the past year since Embrace launched, over 1250 households have applied for help, with more vulnerable Muslims registering every day - refugees, prisoner families, widows, struggling single mothers and survivors of abuse. We simply cannot meet the demand without your help.

Just as our mother Hajar ran, frantic for relief, on our doorstep there are countless Muslim women today, desperately seeking the Zam Zam to their hardships.

• The young mother searches for a way out of domestic violence for her and her children.


• The lonely widow in poverty seeking support to manage her daily needs.


• The traumatised children searching for stability after their father is dragged away in handcuffs before their eyes.


• The refugee, who left everything she ever knew, looking for a new home, only to find rejection and poverty in the UK.

They are carrying more than just financial hardship — the weight of single motherhood, trauma, displacement, and the shame that poverty often brings.

They are not running in the desert for relief, instead they suffer on our doorstep. You can be the source of sustenance and mercy for the Hajars of today.

During these best 10 days of the year, help the rains of mercy fall on households in need. Those in our midst are often the easiest to overlook. But right now in the UK, half of Muslim households are living in poverty.
