🌙 Race to Embrace – Forgotten Families This Ramadhan
Sponsor me as I take part in the Race to Embrace this Ramadhan, supporting forgotten families living in poverty, trauma, and isolation right here in the UK.
This Ramadhan, I’m taking on a personal challenge to raise urgent funds for families who are struggling silently in modern Britain — families who are too often overlooked, unseen, and unheard.
This is the reality on our doorstep
More than
15 million people in the UK are living in poverty.
Almost
half of the UK’s Muslims are affected.
These are not people overseas.
These are
our neighbours.
They are the
first people most deserving of our zakah.
They are
literally on our doorstep.
The Prophet ﷺ taught us that
zakah should be taken from a community and given to those within it. This Ramadhan, we are answering that call.
💔 Who your donation supports
Your donations help the:
- Asylum seeker from Gaza, whose entire family has been martyred. He survives on just £9 a week, is not allowed to work, and arrived in the UK with only the clothes he was wearing — without even basic underwear.
- Grandmother from Syria, in her 70s, living in a hostel on £7 a day, unable to afford incontinence pads — stripped of basic dignity.
- Our sister from Sudan, unable to afford hygiene essentials for herself and her baby, ashamed to pray shoulder-to-shoulder with us because she cannot afford modest clothing.
- The refugee family fleeing war in Yemen, placed into an empty, unfurnished flat — no beds, no mattresses, no fridge, no cooker, no flooring — arriving in winter, unprepared for the cold.
The father stands helpless before his family, unable to work, unable to provide even the basics.
- The single mother, her body broken from the abuse she fled, choosing between food and heating while her children long for warmth and dignity.
- The family of a prisoner, suddenly isolated and ostracised, facing iftar alone and unable to afford the cost of visiting their father in prison.
- The elderly widow, grieving, ill, and unable to afford gas for her freezing home.
🕊️ The scale of the need
In the past year alone,
over 1,200 households have registered with Embrace — families facing poverty, isolation, trauma, and displacement
right here in our communities.
The heartbreaking reality is that
we cannot help most of them.
Not because the need isn’t real —
but because we simply do not have the funds.
And yet, those we do reach call Embrace
“Allah’s angels on His earth.”
They say they make duʿāʾ for Embrace and its donors at every meal.
They tell us:
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You saved the lives of my children and made them happy. May Allah make you happy in Jannah, ameen.”
💔This Ramadhan, be the hand that wipes away their tears.

“The example of brothers for the sake of Allah is like that of the hand and the eye: if the eye weeps, the hand wipes away its tears, and if the hand is in pain, the eye weeps for it.”
